Laura Dahlmeier: Olympic star injured in climbing accident

Laura Dahlmeier, Germany’s double Olympic biblon champion, “seriously injured” in a violent mountaineering accident in Pakistan.

The incident occurred on Monday, when the 31 -year -old child was caught in a rock fall, the Karakoram Mountains.

The bad weather and the distance of the area prevented a rescue helicopter from reaching it until Tuesday morning.

According to the German publisher ZDF, the search had to be temporarily suspended on Tuesday evening due to weak light, and it would continue on Wednesday morning.

Provincial Government Spokesman Farullah Faraq said the Pakistani army helped the rescue operation.

Dahlmeier’s administration told ZDF: “Laura Dahlmeier climbed with the mountaineering partner when she was caught on a rock fall on 28 July. The accident took place at noon at a height of approximately 5,700 meters.

“His wife immediately called emergency services and a rescue operation started immediately.

“Due to the distance of the region, a helicopter was able to reach the place of the accident only on the morning of July 29th.”

Dahlmeier, an experienced mountaineer, represented Germany at the two Winter Olympics, which won two gold and one bronze medals in PyeongChang in 2018.

He was the first woman to win both Sprint and Follow -up at the same Olympics, and at the age of 25, he won 15 more medals, including seven gold in five world championships before he retired from competition in May 2019.
