What we know as tsunami alerts issued after massive Russia earthquake

A large 8.8 -magnitude earthquake on the Far East coast of Russia triggered the tsunami warnings in the Pacific.

It is believed that the earthquake that hit Russia near the Kamchatka Peninsula on Wednesday at 11:15 local time (00:25 BST) is believed to be one of the most powerful recorded.

In some parts of Japan, Russia and the US West coast, more than two million people have been ordered to be evacuated.

China, Philippines, Indonesia, New Zealand and even Peru and Mexico were also published.

What do we know about damage?

In the town of Severo-Kurilsk in Russia, past buildings increased and videos showing large waves appeared. Authorities say 4M (13FT) waves left the harbor and a fish processing plant inundated and swept from the anchoring of ships. A power network was also damaged in the Sakhalin region of Russia.

In Japan, approximately 1.9 million people were asked to be released and the authorities urged the residents to reach a higher place. The first waves reaching the country were relatively small, but the Meteorological Agency says they could grow to 3m (9.8FT).

In Hawaii, the authorities first warned 10FT about possible waves, but the Pacific Tsunami warning center, the tsunami warning covering the candidate is now reduced to a consultation level, he said.

This means that strong waves have potential for small floods and powerful currents, but a large tsunami is not expected to hit. Hawaii Emergency Agency Director Stephen Logan, the release of the house can return home, he said.

How bad is expected to be?

So far, the damage does not look as bad as the first fear – but the tsunami waves continue in the Pacific Ocean.

“Even now, scientists make new models to improve the first forecasts,” Oregon State University, Professor of Marine Geology, Professor of Marine Geology, “Now, even scientists. He said.

“Every country, every port and every coastline will have a very field -specific response. Some places are quite few, some will be quite serious.”

He said that the scope of the effect is largely dependent on the energy path of Russia, which is spread from the Kamchatka Peninsula. It is expected that the areas that are directly suitable for this energy – roughly southeast of the central base – are expected to be most affected.

He said that for a tsunami from Kamchatka, the US reaching the west coast took about eight to nine hours.

What is the time zone?

The earthquake shot on Wednesday at 11:15 local time (00:25 BST).

Tsunami waves hit a portion of the west coast of North America at 12.20 (09.20 am) local time.

The waves are expected to be at 2.20 (11.20 am BST) in the morning in Washington and at 03.20 (12.20 PM), including NOMA (11.20 AM BST) and NOMA.

“A good rule for tsunami waves is to travel at the speed of a jet plane.” He said.

“So if you think about how long it will take to travel from one place to another by plane, how long it takes to hit the earthquakes from the earthquake central base,” he said.

How is it compared with previous earthquakes?

The US Geology Survey, the earthquake said it was relatively shallow-19.3 km (12 miles) and collided at a depth of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky 119 km east-south.

It was initially recorded as an earthquake of 8.0 magnitude, but then revised upwards. A series of strong aftershocks were also recorded.

Biobío was connected for the sixth most severe earthquake in history with the 2010 earthquake in Chile and Ecuador, Esmeraldas.

The fifth most severe earthquake was in 1952 in Kamchatka Krai in Russia.

Compared, the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, which killed more than 227,000 people, were an earthquake of 9.2-9.3 magnitude.

This is Sumatra, about 160 km away on the west coast of Indonesia – a densely populated area. Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula is very low to population density.
