Four of five trapped Chilean miners found dead

As rescue teams tried to clean up underground passages in a strong tremor last week, four of the workers who fell into five traps in Codelco’s El Teneiente Copper Mine were found dead.

The last death brings a total death fee from the accident to five, including a person who died during the event on Thursday evening.

Codelco discovered the first trapped worker on Saturday and the two of them early on Sunday. El Teniente General Manager Andes Music was later discovered on Sunday morning, a fourth worker.

At a press conference, “We worked over a night by looking at the meter overnight.” He said.

“I don’t want to create wrong hopes either. I hope our rescue employees continue to make progress.”

At the beginning of the market, rescue teams had cleaned the passage of 24 meters. CODELCO officials said that it would be necessary to block 90 meters in the new Andesita section of the mine to reach the imprisoned workers.

The collapse took place on Thursday at around 17.30 and caused one of the biggest tremors recorded in El Teniente with an earthquake effect of 4.2 magnitude.

Codelco is investigating whether the cause is mining or natural tectonic changes in the earthquake -prone country.
