Why did India Post decided?
After the India Post showed a significant 25% decrease in official data registered items, it decided to gradually remove the registered post-2011-12 from 244.4 million to 2019-20 to 184.6 million. In addition to the emergence of e-commerce platforms, the decline was attributed to the increasing digital adoption and competition from private courier companies. In the light of the amendment, the Secretary and General Manager of Postal Ministry instructed all departments, courts, educational institutions and users to switch to the new system at the beginning of next month. The merger with Speed Post aims to increase the delivery rate, monitoring accuracy and the efficiency of operations.

India Post’s movement not only triggered nostalgia, but also Speed Post also triggered concerns about the affordable price, as it is a relatively expensive service. For example, the initial fee for registered mail starts at 25.96 RS plus 5 RS 5 per 20 grams and the speed pole at 41 RS for 50 grams. The price difference can affect the rural India, where post office is effective for communication. Authorities argued that change is necessary to meet the expectations of the developed user in the digital age.
