Man jailed for threatening police with ‘gun’ made from Primark bag

A man was imprisoned after threatening two police officers with a fake firearms made from a brown paper bag.

CCTV images showed that 37 -year -old Matthew Sylvester chased a police car and showed a fake gun to the officers who assume that the gun was real in the dark.

Police Officers from Arthur and George Oliver answered the report of a man who used a tram to try to enter a shop in Telford city center at 22:00 on 22 February.

West Mercia police said that the officers were preparing for the arrival of the police by using a Jumper to cover the face of “wannabe theft”, a gun to imitate a gun.

When he noticed that the patrol car entered the parking lot, he immediately accused civil servants with a fiery weapon. The officers moved away from Sylvester, only they found themselves stuck behind their parking barriers. He went to the passenger side of the car and threatened the PC Oliver and kicked the vehicle.

The officers quickly called for backup because they could not see that Sylvester did not hold a gun in the dark. The 37 -year -old took action to open the boat of the police car before leaving the car and running in the direction of Sylvester on a pedestrian.

Before leaving the parking lot, the two officers put him on the ground and took off Jumper, who covered the face of Sylvester, known to the police.

Police quickly found that the firearms were a brown paper bag that Sylvester endured to look like a pistol. The suspect, who was not a fixed dwelling, was arrested for crimes, including imitation firearms and attacking an emergency worker.

Chief Inspector Matt Sanders: “When the civil servants were sent to an ongoing event. That night, PC Arthur and PC Oliver responded to the theft attempt that night and came face to face with a man who caused damage and distress to the police.

“Sylvester’s actions were calculated, great efforts to ensure that civil servants were called to the scene, including the threatening of the public and trying to enter a shop.

“Before manipulating an object like a small firearm weapon, he covered his face with a Jumper to ensure that he was not recognized by the civil servants, threatening the person who responded.

“The courage and professionalism shown by both PCs that evening were nothing extraordinary.

“Fortunately, no officer continued to injure any injury, and Sylvester was rapidly arrested with those who came to his aid thanks to the rapid thinking and actions of both officers that night.

Later, he was accused of two crimes such as attacking an emergency worker, having an imitation firearm to cause distress, having a class A drug and attempting theft.

Sylvester was found guilty of all the charges in Shrewsbury Crown Court in half of the hearing last week on Wednesday.

On Friday, he was sentenced to 16 months and three months in prison for 16 months and two emergency workers to rush.

In addition, it was given for four months because it caused fear and violence and a month because it had a class A drug (cocaine). Both will work simultaneously.
