Vijay Deverakonda’s Film Draws Backlash Over Portrayal Of Sri Lankan Tamils

The film, claiming that the film represented Sri Lankan Tamils wrong, protests from Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), who organized protests in Tamil Nadu, under fire. Apart from the theaters in Madurai, Madurai, party members demanded the ban on the film. The online traveling videos show the agitators who destroyed the posters of the film.
The NTK state propaganda secretary addressed Saravanan to the media and condemned what he calls the deterioration of history. “The film despises LTTE fighters and Eezham Tamils. They fought and died for 30 years, but they are shown as slaveized people living in the mountains.” The protesters also objected to the antagonis played by Venkatesh – the name of Lord Murugan, a reputable Tamil god, and criticized the depiction of Sri Lanka Tamils as a bad man.
It was reported that NTK members came together with theater administrations and that a meeting with distributors of the film will be scattered after assurances that they would be held to rethink the screening.
In contrast, the distributors approached Madras Supreme Court looking for police protection.
