Ghana chopper crash kills two ministers and six others

A helicopter accident in Ghana killed eight people, including the defense and environmental ministers of the West African country.

The army said that the helicopter was on the road to Obuasi, a gold mining area in the Ashansti region from the capital Accra on Wednesday morning, but he came out of the radar.

The reason for the accident was immediately unknown.

Defense Minister Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister İbrahim Murtala Muhammad were killed by the vice president of the national democratic congress ruling party, a senior national security advisor and crew members.

The state media said that Z-9 helicopter is generally used as an ancillary helicopter used for shipping and medical evacuation.

The Ghana government described the accident as “national tragedy”.

The accident on Wednesday was one of Ghana’s worst weather disasters for more than ten years.

In May 2014, a service helicopter fell from the shore and killed at least three people.

In 2021, a cargo plane overcome the track in Accra and hit a bus full of passengers and killed at least 10 people.

Like other coastal West African countries, Ghana is active in Sahel, from the Islamist groups, from Karası Burkina Faso and Mali to the south.
