Hurricane Outrigger Canoe Club: Council funding for para-canoeing to help get more people on the water

A canoe club, which helps more people enjoy Perth’s rivers, received rowing news.
Hurricane Outrigger Kano Club received a $ 1000 community aid grant from East Fremantle town to raise the life vests for the Para-Kano program launched this year.
Six jackets will be replaced to comply with the disability of the individual, including a sewing hand holding to help re -enter a canoe of rowers.
In addition, it will include special rowing attachments designed for single -sleeved shovels, prevent shovel loss during use and provide independence and confidence on water.
Hurricane’s Money-Kano Coach Tori Vidler said that the grant would help people with disabilities to access and participate in community water sports.
“Water safety should be a priority for everyone concerned,” he said.
“The participant lifts obstacles for the new Para-Paddler to enter the sport without having to finance them.
“Also, it allows them to shovel further from the sand with comfortable and confidence.
“When our Para-Paddler is ready, the life vests will also provide high visibility and add security to try the ocean shovels.”
Mark Daniels, a member of the Paddle Australian Paracanoe team, said that the club has become a second family.
“After competing in 2018 Invictus games, I first discovered Para-Canoe at the age of 25,” he said.
Im I was connected from the moment I tried. Paracanoe was the most challenging but rewarding sport I’ve ever experienced.
“He gave me a reason to get out of bed every day, helping me to be in the form as an amputee, and at the same time he supported me throughout my mental health struggles.”

The club training at 9 am every Sunday and has an open day planned in September.
Hurricane Session Canoe Club is one of the eight clubs that received financing from the town’s 2025-26 community help grant program.
Others were Lions Club, Fremantle Rowing Club, Richmond Primary School P & C, East Fremaantle Yacht Club, East Fremaantle Bowling Club, East Fremenle Junior Crick Club and Fremantle Sea Scouts.
Funds will be used in camp equipment, new sails for training boats, new shovel shovels and a new open -air class and nature playground.
Mayor Jim O’Neill said the town’s grant program helps to employing costs.
“These jackets are a great investment for equal access to the wing of money, and it is great that everyone can enjoy our natural areas safely and safely,” he said.
