Red tape slashed to fast-track building new homes

In the next decade, approvals will rise for the houses and second houses in smaller blocks to achieve an ambitious goal of a state.

Victoria Planning Minister Sonya Kilkenny announced the ‘one home code’, which he said he would cut bureaucracy and build houses earlier.

The scheme aims to facilitate the approval process for new homes in land blocks less than 300 square meters.

This means that if a new home design meets specific standards, including adjusted ridges, tree canopy, solar access and needs for street agency, it can be approved without the need for complete planning permission.

Neighbors will still be informed and provide feedback, but if the standards are met, there will be no appeals or expensive delays.

Ms. Kilkenny said that the initiative was designed to increase the housing density and purchasability by making it easier to build on smaller lots.

“This is another way to say ‘yes’ to the journalists in Brighton on Sunday, Kilkenny on Sunday, yes, more homes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,” said yes, “said.

“If your offer meets the standards, you should be able to continue and build.”

The only home code that entered into force on September 8 will be implemented throughout the province and follows similar changes in the approval of the low circle and town houses announced by the State Government in April.

A long -term housing plan, known as a plan for Victoria, was organized by the leading Jacinta Allan and Mrs. Kilkenny in February.

In the state -wide plan contains 22 “concrete” action, including carefully managing regional cities and towns.

More than seven million people live in Victoria, but the Australian Statistical Office rises to 11.5 million by 2055.

The government estimates that 2.24 million homes will be needed in Melbourne and regions.

In August 2023, all states and regions accepted the National Housing Agreement, a country -wide target to build a million new, good housing for five years from 2024.

In January, the property council said that Australia was 15,000 houses behind Target.

The housing system report predicts that Victoria can be the only state that will reach any place to reach its target, in fact, 306,000 new houses can achieve 98 percent of the national housing agreement target until the middle of 2029.

Queensland would only reach 65 percent of its implicit targets and reach NSW only.

In July, NSW launched a housing pattern book to accelerate planning approval.

The pattern book, which consists of eight -storey pre -approved design and 10 -day approval path, can be used for everyone of $ 1 for a period of six months.
