Only true fans of UK actor will remember him in this role | UK | News

What will not be loved about a fictional detective with an interesting trademark? Think of Columbbo, who likes to cook with Morse puzzles and the love of classical music, bone marrow growth and mustache care with Poirot and to bake pepper and dealing with old Peugeot.
Nevertheless, none of them can be compared with Copper Alex Ridley, who wandered in a jazz club. And a voice with the retired detective inspector – or rather a 67 -year -old actor Adrian Dunbar, who plays it.
But those who have long memories will already know that. In 1991, Adrian, Musical Comedy Drama, took part in My Song as a real life Irish tenor.
While chatting through Zoom, Adrian, who came from Enniskillen town in Northern Ireland, smiles, orum I am interested in music all my life ”. “In the 1970s, I founded a country music group with friends, I have been an Elvis imitator for a while, and since then I played in many groups. I was playing bass guitar, but now I’m singing.
“It was a gambling that included a musical element in a serious police drama – especially when you think that most of the back story of Ridley is to lose his wife and daughter on fire.
“The songs written by fantastic singer/songwriter Richard Hawley are really about male grief. They follow Ridley’s character and what it lives. The music brings him a certain consolation.
This is the same battered, black leather jacket that Ridley constantly wore during the first – without fail – without failing. A signed piece of outfit is the device that describes a very popular character by criminal fiction writers-the Sarah Lund’s Scandi Style Faroese Jumper and Sherlock Holmes’ iconic Deerstalker hat from his endless bucket hat. Adrian laughs at a fair-cop genre when questioned.
“Well done to get this, but this is a brown jacket, actually,” he jokes. “This police procedure, so I really should take you from these details! But yes, we wanted to find an outfit that would be associated with Ridley.
“We found this especially the beaten old jacket and we thought it would be perfect to add characterization. As an actor, wearing it is also very helpful. When I wear it, I immediately feel like him.”
There is a moment when he sees a girl in which Ridley is convinced that Ridley is a daughter. “The grief works very deep,” Adrian says. “Psychologically, it’s hard to deal with it, but it’s interesting and I think we’re dealing very well.”
In a happier note, there is a possible romanticism for Ridley with his deceased wife Kate’s friend Annie, the deceased wife of actress Julie Graham.
“Annie and Ridley are running the jazz club Marlings together, Adand says Adrian. Ann The only person Opened by Ridley is Annie and we see that their relationships began to change as the second series progresses. We are not talking about wedding bells or something like that, at the end of the night, a chips bag that never shares it in a romantic light – but when another man started to attract a great interest in Annie, is it not Mutu?
He knows Julie for years and calls him a good wife to work on the show.
“Great when you work with friends, or he says. “It brings a real warmth to acting.”
And the players certainly needed it. When he was filmed in the north of Manchester during the winter, sometimes the weather was as gloomy as some stories.
“Oh, it was really cold. There was a scene in Moors, Ah says Adrian. “It was snowing and I had to get into both people because my face was frozen. It was so cold that you would result in such a terrible smile when you were trying to talk on your face.
“So I had to go to relax a little and sit next to the fire. But then the sun comes out and freezes, but it looks great and snow on the hills and ‘Wow, it will look great on this screen’.”
In the last three years since we met Ridley, things started to continue for him, but understandablely, he continues to be haunted with the loss of his wife and daughter.
“I wanted to show some progress – I think it is important to show that you can continue with grief – on the other hand the loss will always be there, Adand says Adrian. “I met someone who once lost her daughter in a car accident and continued to think that it would appear somehow again.
“It was a kind of psychological thing that was very difficult to believe that he was dead.
During the past year, Adrian, who married Actress and Actress Manager Anna Nygh, whom she shared with Adult daughter Madeleine, changed the screen to process a panel in a hit production of Kate. Talk about mixing things!
“This was very different,” he laughs. “With Ridley, you stay too early in the morning and you work outside and go out for five days a week, go out until 19:00. More like a communication sport – physical, singing and dancing, running, running, learning your lines, learning your lines. Eight shows and shows per week is an exercise.
“One day has permission. Fortunately, he says he plays a leading role in a good show.
“It was an exciting but difficult job. It is a physical more difficult job than TV. There are other demands on TV, for example, mentally other demands – we have to do a lot of work on scenarios. But diversity is good.”
Another good – really good – after years of speculation and rumors that lasted for months and years, to return to the task line with 67 -year -old Adrian, to repeat his role as Di Kate Fleming with Vicky McClure and Di Steve Arnott with Martin Compston. Oh ‘Jesus, Mary, Joseph and Wee Donkey’ – as Hastings said.
“It will, Adan Adrian insists. Jed Mercurio is writing new scenarios and we are really excited to take our hands to them – we just expect the BBC to make an official announcement. Me and Vicky and Martin want to do this and hopefully we will shoot at Belfast next year.
“The last time we were there during Covid and we couldn’t go out, so it would be great to go back and have a little fun.
It would be nice to see more TED task. Maybe relaxing. Maybe he’s having a night in a Karaoke bar? Still, don’t remove your hopes!
“Yes, I’m sure you want to see it, Adan Adrian laughs. “But this is not just TED’s region. He never did such a thing.”
Moreover, pity. He would do the best job of the little donkey.
