Having a personal brand at work is key for introverts, expert says—how to develop one

Goldie Chan knows how to put herself there.
Chan, founder and president of the brand agency Warm Robots, is also a writer, frequent opening speaker and LinkedIn ball sound.
Nevertheless, he describes himself as introverted in the heart – this offers a challenge to enlarge his career.
“I think many people underestimate their introversion in the workplace, or he says.
According to Chan, it was the key to the success of creating a personal brand. At the beginning of his career, Chan worked in various marketing and social media roles “completely behind the curtain”.
In 2017, LinkedIn, who tested the video feature at the time, began publishing short videos about Pop Culture brand and marketing.
Being a content creator was not his plan at the beginning: “I really thought, I will do it until I get my next full -time job, Chan says Chan.
When he was among the roles, he released more than 800 consecutive daily videos – a speed he did not recommend “unless you want to sleep again” – and rapidly attracted a wide audience.
Today, there are more than 100,000 followers in LinkedIn, and this platform helped him take new roles, get a book agreement and share his expert advice as a Forbes participant.

How can the withdrawals dominate personal branding?
“Everyone has a personal brand,” says Chan.

Developing a strong personal brand can help to highlight their talents and increase their careers: “Allows you to shape the story that other people tell you about you.”
Is it still scary? Chan hears this very much.
I said, “I was very scared of raising my personal brand because I don’t want to put myself there,” he says.
Chan himself felt the same way. In order to fight social anxiety, he challenged a new person in the local coffee shop every day for a month.
Only a small, consistent action can help you get out of your comfort area.

Remember that your personal brand is not only online. According to Chan, participating in social activities such as hobby groups or network meetings can also contribute to creating your brand.

“A personal brand is never created alone, Chan says Chan. “Being involved in the groups that concern you can really help your career even if they are not directly related to your career.”
He describes personal brands as “center at the center of speakers”.
“All these different speakers are different things you’ve done, and all of them go back to a central center – so the little things you do will always help your general personal brand,” he says.
