PM Modi has dishonoured memory of martyrs by praising RSS in I-Day speech: CPI(M)

On Friday, August 15, 2025, the Indian Communist Party (Marxist) said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi chose to praise the RSS in his independence day speech “deeply regret” and called it an organization with “a suspicious historical record”.
In a message greeting the country on the 79th Independence Day, CPI (M) Secretary General Ma Baby said that Rashtria Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) was prohibited following Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination and historians documented the role of “encouraging social uprisings”.

“My most sincere greetings on the Day of Independence. The journey to freedom from India’s colonial rule was long and challenging. Martyrs like Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Ashfaqullah Khan live in our memories not only today, but in our memories,” Mr. Baby said.

The Prime Minister praised the RSS and claimed that he was “honoring the memory of our martyrs”.
