Trump says Xi told him China will not invade Taiwan while he is in office | Taiwan
US President Donald Trump said that Xi Jinping, Chinese counterpart, would not invade Taiwan when Trump was on duty.
Trump commented on Friday in an interview with Fox News on Friday before talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Moscow’s Ukraine invasion.
“I will tell you, you know, you have something very similar to the President of China and Taiwan, but I don’t believe it will happen as long as I’m here.” He said.
Trump, “I will never do as long as you’re president,” he said. President Xi told me and said, “Well, I appreciate it,” I said, but at the same time, ‘But I am very patient and China is very patient,’ ‘he said.
The Chinese Embassy in Washington did not respond immediately to the request for comments.
Trump and Xi approved the second presidential period of Trump in June. Trump also said in April that Xi called him, but did not specify when this call was made.
China sees Taiwan as its own region and promised to olmak coming together again with the island, which was forced to democratically and separately, if necessary. Taiwan strongly objected to China’s allegations of sovereignty.
Although Washington Taiwan is the main weapon supplier and international supporter, the US – like most countries – has no official diplomatic ties with the candidate.
