Text of European leaders statement on Trump-Putin talks in Alaska

(Reuters) -Foining is the text of a statement published jointly by a few European leaders after a summit in Ukraine between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The statement was published by French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, British Prime Minister Keir Stubb, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, President of the Council of Europe Antonio Costa and EU Commission President Ursula von Der Lyan.

“In the early hours of this morning, President Trump informed us and President Zelenskyy after his meeting with the Russian President in Alaska on August 15, 2025.

“Leaders welcomed President Trump’s efforts to stop the killing in Ukraine, to end Russia’s war of aggression and to achieve fair and lasting peace.

“As President Trump says, there is no agreement until an agreement has an agreement. As foreseen by President Trump, the next step must be more advanced negotiations, including President Zelenskyy he will meet soon.

“We are also ready to work towards a tripartite summit with the support of President Trump and President Zelenskyy.

“We are clear that Ironclad security guarantees to effectively defend the sovereignty and regional integrity of Ukraine.

“Deciding in the region will be left to Ukraine. International borders should not be changed.

“We will continue our support for Ukraine. We are determined to do more to keep Ukraine strong in order to end the fight and a fair and permanent peace.

“As long as the killing in Ukraine continues, we are ready to maintain the pressure on Russia. We will continue to strengthen sanctions and broader economic measures to put pressure on Russia’s war economy until it becomes a fair and lasting peace.

“Ukraine, Ukraine and Europe’s vital security interests to protect a peace while working towards a unchanging solidarity.”
