Texas house votes to approve Republican redistricting maps


Texas legislator approved the new congress maps to provide an advantage to the Republicans in the US House of Representatives next year.
After a two -week stance in which the Democrats fled from the state to stop the votes, rally supporters and Republicans in the Texas House of Texas passed the new voting lines with 88 – 52 votes.
The maps will now go to the Texas Senate, which is expected to be quickly approved.
New maps give Republicans five seats, which are currently held by the Democrats and support the majority of the US house. However, states under the leadership of the Democratic are trying to redraw their maps to balance these gains.

The vote followed a dramatic stance where state democrats escaped from the state to stop the voting of new maps.

On Monday, Texas House President Dustin Burrows ordered the locking of the doors of the room.

The changing maps in Texas have led to concerns about Gerrymandering – the re -drawing of the election limits to choose a political party – legal motivated unless it is racially motivated.
Like other states, Texas redirects the congress regions once for ten years when new population data were released by the US census.
Texas Democrats claim that the re -scratching maps before the number of next census in 2030 was made along racial lines – an argument rejected by the Republicans. The voting maps approved in 2021 after the last number of population are currently prosecuted on allegations of racial discrimination.
