Ministry of External Affairs announces PM Modi’s visit to Japan, China

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin a four -day visit of Japan and China on 29 August 2025, announced on Friday, August 22, 2025.

In the first leg of his trip, Mr. Modi will be in Japan during a two -day visit.

From Japan to China to attend the annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

The Prime Minister’s announcement of his visit to two Asian countries came to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s trip to India just a few days later.

Mea said Mr. Modi would be in Japan to attend the 15th Indian-Japanese Annual Summit on 29 and 30 August.

This will be the eighth visit of Mr. Modi to Japan as Prime Minister.

The ministry said Mr. Modi and Japanese counterpart Shigeru Ishiba will review a special strategic and global partnership between India and Japan.

He said that the two prime ministers will be deliberate in the fields of defense and security, trade and economy, technology and innovation and human-human changes and discussed regional and global importance.

“The visit will confirm the long -standing special friendship bond between the two countries,” Mea said in a statement. He said.

In the second leg of his visit, Mr. Modi will go to the neighboring country from August 1 to 1 September to attend the SCO summit in Tianjin, China, at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

“The summit is expected to hold bilateral meetings with several leaders among the summit.” He said.

India has been a member of SCO since 2017. During the period of 2022-23, he organized the chairman of the SCO State Heads Council.
