Man who murdered wife in ‘cowardly rage’ with 1.8kg sledgehammer went out drinking

A convicted killer who killed his wife with a “cowardly anger” with a 1.8 kg of sledgehammer – left him to die in a blood pool – he could not convince a court to overthrow his conviction.
On April 18, 2020, Shaun Robert Sturgess sentenced him to a life imprisonment to brutally kill his ex -wife Jacqueline in Narangba houses in the north of Brisbane.
The couple was in the middle of a property dispute after leaving a year ago, and 45 -year -old Sturgess was told by a lawyer at the beginning of that day about how to get 60/40 division.
In addition to alimony payments, Sturgess also faced the risk of losing the award -winning Monaro muscle car.
During the murder hearing, he was told that he discussed this arrangement while collecting property, including a MS Sturgess table and some jewels before Sturgess flew into anger and killing him.
He then left his body before going to a bottle shop and then a friend’s house where he continued his house.
The jury of the Brisbane Supreme Court found him guilty in February 2024.
In the appeal of the Queensland Court of Appeal, Sturgess argued that a low justice occurred due to the fact that a previous violence department was taken before the jury.
He also argued that the trial judge did not warn the jury to rely on the evidence of filling evidence of the ear, and that he could not make appropriate instructions on the özel private intention of the crown to prove, and thus leading justice to more low.
After the arrest of Sturgess during the hearing, it was said that he was transferred to a police station on 30 April 2020.
Among some of his explanations, he said that he was “clustering his wife”, and Bludgeoned with four kilos ”.

He also called his alienated wife as “narcissist ,, and said that he did not want to kill him” and that he was “basically taking me”.
In an official interview, he said to the officers:…… What I did, even on the ground, saw blood, only um, f *** most human. Only Noah. ‘He didn’t deserve.’ But he probably continued me. But he didn’t deserve it. ”
During the closing address, Crown prosecutor Chris Cook said the jury was Sturgess in the past that he had been a gibi a violent man in Turkey ve and that he had previously attacked his wife.
The essence of the case was not based on the forefront – rather, Sturgess hit him with a violent force and at least aimed to at least cause great physical damage or at least a grieving harm.
The Court of Appeal rejected Sturgess’s application in its decisions and finding the attention of previous domestic violence was “open without the need to elaborate”.
Ev Evidence that the appealing person has violently acts against the deceased person, not only as the background and context for killing, but also to eliminate any suspicion that the jury’s infertile deadly actions and his unreasonable behavior, which is not in the judiciary.

“For the jury, the only problem for them was very explained that beyond reasonable suspicion, the accepted angry appealing people act.
A lethal intention when he collects a sledgehammer and bludges his wife behind his head. “
The judge of all three appeal courts also rejected the justification for the evidence of the ear, and the court judge did not miscarriage while the jury instructed the jury.
“The jury could not be suggested to be condemned to be condemned to be condemned because he was holding anything less than the intention of causing severe physical damage when making the wife of the appeal with a strong force, with a sledgehammer behind his head,”.
“In my opinion, there was no wrong decision on a matter of law when it comes to the way that the honor directed the jury about the intention required for murder.”
In February 2024, in punishing Sturgess, Justice said that Tom Sullivan did not justify the death of his wife.
“Your actions were completely extreme and unfair. What happened that day should never happen,” he said.
“Domestic violence is inferior. Here, a woman and a mother died unnecessarily and you will imprison some of your adult life.”
Sturgess’s 80 -year -old father Robert Fitzsimmons shared his heart to lose his youngest girl in a statement by Mr. Cook on Thursday.
Im I have been a simple man in my life, I have served my country and the people of this country, Fit he wrote Fitzsimmons.
“Now I feel my heart and a complete failure because I couldn’t protect my beloved Jacqui.”
Mr. Fitzimmons said that his daughter helped to overcome alcohol abuse and smoking, helping to overcome “war traumas”.
