Elderly woman’s death in house fire ‘absolutely tragic’

In a unit fire in NSW Central Coast, an old woman’s suspicious death launched a murder investigation that defines the case as “tragic”.

The seriously burnt body of the 77 -year -old woman, not officially identified, was found late on Sunday after the fire was extinguished in the unit in the village of Barau Bay.

The police said that the murder team and local detectives were a strike force to investigate the incident, but the woman’s death case was not established to investigate the incident.

Tuggerah Lakes Inspector Chad Gillies said that a 26 -year -old relative was detained for unrelated issues and questioned about the fire.

Although the body of the woman was not found until 9.30, the information given to the police may be burned for hours before the fire was detected.
