Eviction drive in Assam’s Nagaon district called off after voluntary demolition

Officials in the Nagaon Region of Middle Assem called for an operation planned on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, after voluntarily destroyed the structures of alleged rape before the release of Jengoni in the Dhing region.

Regional officials said the Regional Commissioner Debasish Sarma visited the region on August 22, 2025 and applied to the rapists to deliver their land peacefully instead of resisting evacuation.

“Jengoni settlers began to destroy their homes on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at around 22.00 on Tuesday, August 26, 2025. We did not drive because of voluntary destruction.” He said.

Authorized, raped 28 Bighas state land to clean 120 business organizations and 51 houses destroyed, he said.

Prime Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who responded to the development through social media platforms, said, “The tide is turning. Those who have been raped before the evacuation drivers support this now … The best way to the future is compliance with the conflict.” He said.

Authorities in Nagaon said that the rape was announced in the other seven areas under the Dhing -income circle and the evacuation notifications covering 1,047 Bighas land were presented.

Mr. Saikia claimed that the government has displaced Christian tribes, weakening the constitutional values, violating court orders and ignoring India’s obligations under international human rights conventions.

Without the clarity of the center, he called on the commission to protect the constitutional rights of the people and to account for the fact that the people behind the evacuation can be accountable.
