We live in Donbas – Trump is a clown and Putin negotiations are ’empty talks’ | World | News

Donbas, a region in Eastern Ukraine, has been a key target for the Kremlin since 2014, the size of Denmark. Recently, Donald has dominated the headlines after Donald Trump’s controversial meeting with Putin in Alaska. Before the meeting, Trump expressed his support to give empty Ukrainian territory to Russia to end the war. Russia is already controlling about 88% of Donbas, including Luhansk and about three quarters, Donetsk. Now Putin wants Ukraine to quit the whole region for peace.

But far from the Ukrainians living in Donbas. “We will stay, we will fight, we will defend our lands and we will protect it. Because this is our land, this is our country.”

Dmytro lives in Druzhkivka, a city of 50,000 people just over 10 miles from the facade line. He founded Duzi Space, a voluntary group that helped the soldiers, evacuated and animals affected by the war. Before the fully -scale invaded, he worked at a US company that closed the Ukrainian office.

He said there was no optimistic about any peace agreement in the next few years. Describing Donbas as a “door” to more land like others, Dmytro is afraid that Russia will only give new opportunities to initiate more attacks on Putin.

When asked what he thought about the Putin-Trump Alaska meeting, he said it was just a “empty speech” and certainly did not see any changes. “I hear the sounds of explosion every day, the bombing of our Air Force, Russian Air Force, Drones, Russian drones.”

After Trump met with Putin in Alaska, Zelensky said he was willing to meet with the Russian President. Dmytro believes that the Ukrainian leader is the option other than going with what Trump is forcing, and he will cause peace even with suspicion.

“We think of Trump as a clown in Ukraine. So you have to play a game with this person. That game is the referee of this game. You must be polite, you must be quiet and you must be a very good child.”

Despite Dmytro’s “depressed” and “a robot”, despite the ongoing fight, he knows that everyone should continue. After many lives have disappeared, resistance is the only way to forward. It was also convinced that the Russians lost many troops and invested important sources to seize the region and not to withdraw.

Like Dmytro, Kateryna from Vuhledar has no trust in peace talks.

Before the war, Vuhledar was a mine town with about 15,000 people. When Russia seized the town last year, almost all the population had escaped and the city was completely destroyed. Now, he lives in the basements and remains less calmly that supports the Russian occupation.

Kateryna and her family left for Ukraine for Ukraine through Ukraine’s Homes sponsorship plan. He works as a media manager at an educational institution by making a doctor.

He knows how difficult it is to return from his own experience to a country – and he can’t accept less to give up regions.

He said: “It is vital that the integrity of our country, including the regions that have not yet been invaded, is vital. Ukrainians live there, these are Ukraine cities and we cannot leave them.

“I will never go back to my city because it was destroyed. I will never walk their streets again. My family’s house was destroyed. My own house was destroyed. And I stay as a displaced person in my own country. I have no place to return. Last hope, we lose completely.”

Ksenia was born in Kramatorsk, one of the larger cities that Putin demanded from peace talks. He is the director of Druzi Space and also works as a web designer. Her husband, a two -year -old son and her parents live with her in the city.

“I am absolutely sure that our land will not be changed. It is unfair to the people living here and the soldiers who defend this region and give their lives.” He said.

When Putin was asked about making land, he said he thought it was mostly people who didn’t live in Donbas.

“Who wants to leave their homes and land voluntarily to the invaders?

“We do not agree to give our husbands to the enemies who kill our husbands, our fathers, our mothers, our mothers and children all over Ukraine.
