Royal Mail restarts US parcel service – for an extra fee

Royal Mail became the first international postal operator to launch new services for customers who send parcels to the United States with the expectation of new customs requirements.

As of today, customers can access the company’s new mail delivery tasks (PDDP) services.

This proactive step follows a US executive order published last month, which requires that goods with $ 800 or less as of August 29 will no longer be exempt from import taxes and taxes.

Explaining new services, Iain Johnson, the International General Manager at Royal Mail, said, uz We are working hard with relevant US officials and international partners to adapt our services in a very short period of time.

“Whether consumers or businesses, our UK -based customers can send products to the US through all our channels, including online and post office for new customs requirements that came into force on 29 August.”

“Now, except for only a few exceptions, all the goods entering the United States will attract the tasks to be paid to the US customs officials, a process to be discussed by the Royal Mail.

“This is a change in previous rules that all goods worth $ 800 can release the US duty.”

Royal Mail said that the postal pricing will remain the same before, but it will add 50p per parcel transport fee to be invoiced as a transportation fee to the US to provide additional costs for providing permission services ”.

A spokesman told Independent: “We are working hard with US authorities and international partners to adapt our services to meet the minimal requirements in the new USA in order to ensure that the UK consumers and businesses can continue to use our services when they enter into force.

“Consumers who send gifts worth less than $ 100 will not have to pay for.”

At the beginning of this week, the Royal Mail announced that Donald Trump’s administration temporarily suspended the parcels to the United States after deciding to scrape a customs duty rule that allows low -valuable packages to enter the customs -free.

The President said that the packages of $ 800 (600 £) sent to the US last month would face valid tasks this Friday and end a gap known as the exemption of the “de minimus”.

This means that commercial transporters of low -valuable products will have to pay the same tariff rate as other goods from the same origin country. The products made in the UK will face a 10 percent tariff and a 15 percent tax from the EU.

However, gifts that are more valuable than $ 100 (75 £) will continue to be exempted with the sending of cards and letters that do not require customs declaration.

Royal Mail has joined other European postal services to stop shipments to the United States as of Tuesday and allowed packages to arrive before the tasks begin.
