EU chief von der Leyen’s plane hit by suspected Russian GPS interference

The European Commission said that the navigation system of a plane carrying Ursula von was broken because it was suspected of Russia’s intervention.

A spokesman said the “GPS stuck” took place when the President of the Commission was about to arrive in Bulgaria on Sunday, but still descended safely.

“We received information from the Bulgarian authorities that this was due to Russia’s open intervention.”

Referring to anonymous officials, Financial Times reported that Von der Lenin should go down to Plovdiv airport using paper maps.

The Bulgarian government confirmed that during the flight, the aircraft was “neutralized by the satellite signal that transmits information to the GPS navigation system”.

The statement continued: “To ensure the safety of the flight, air control services immediately offered an alternative descent method using terrestrial navigation tools.”

Bulgaria’s Air Traffic Services Authority told the newspaper Since January 2022, there is a “remarkable increase” in navigation jam.

Kremlin told FT that his information was “wrong”.
