Ignored by most, this simple daily mistake could be fueling stress, anxiety, and even health problems

Most of us are trying big corrections: more sleep, regular training, meditation. What if the key to lowering stress is not so complex? What if it was as simple as being properly moistened?

A new study by researchers at the University of Liverpool John Moores (LJMU) has shown something surprising, even a light dehydration can put an extra stress load on your body.
Scientists found that people who drink less than 1.5 liters per day were an increase of cortisol of more than 50% compared to those who drink enough water in stressful moments. Cortisol is the main stress hormone of the body if you are curious. It is useful in short explosions (for example, escaping from danger), but when the levels remain high for too long, the problem is a recipe for heart disease, diabetes, depression and bad sleep.
How did they test this?
To go deeper, researchers divided healthy young adults into two groups:
- A group drank less than 1.5 liters per day.
- The other adhered to the recommended levels (2 liters for women, 2.5 liters for men).
After watching their habits and hydrations for a week, the participants were stressed with a simulated job interview and timed mathematical tests. Both groups felt equally tense, but the low -rainy group had a much stronger cortisol response. Their single clues were darker, more concentrated. Obviously, waiting until you feel dehydrated is not the most reliable signal.
Why important
Cortisol is not a bad guy here, but playing a role in helping us cope with urgent threats. However, when stress hormones continue to increase day by day, they start to receive a fee. The risks rise from weight gain and high blood pressure to mood disorders and insomnia.
Chief Researcher Professor Neil Walsh summarized best:
“Cortisol is the main stress hormone of the body and is related to increasing cortisol reactivity against stress, increasing the risk of heart disease, diabetes and depression.”
So, how much should you drink?
General Recommendation:
Women – about 2 liters per day
Men – about 2.5 liters per day
This does not only mean water -rich foods such as plain water, tea, coffee, fruit juices and even cucumbers or watermelon counts.
The easiest signs to be considered? If you go for hours without having to drink frequently or if your urine is dark yellow, you probably need to fill it.
A simple correction for a more calm mind
Hydration is not a magic treatment for stress, but it is one of the easiest daily habits to build and pays for both your mind and your body. Why don’t you start with the simplest change when everything else in life strives? A glass of water may be doing more than you think about your calmness.
