Trump asks US Supreme Court to uphold his tariffs after lower court defeat

President Donald Trump asked the US Supreme Court to overthrow a lower court decision that found that most of the sweep tariffs were illegal.

In a petition opened late on Wednesday, the administration asked justice to quickly intervene to manage the President of the President to impose such import taxes on foreign countries.

Last week, a divided Court of Appeal for the US Federal Circuit 7-4 decided that Trump’s tariffs brought through the Emergency Economic Authority Law did not fall into the task of the president and that the determination of taxes was a “basic congress power”.

The case may improve Trump’s economic and foreign policy agenda and forced the US to repay billions of tariffs.

Trump justified the tariffs within the scope of the International Emergency Economic Authorities (IEEPA), which gives the President the authority to act against “unusual and extraordinary” threats.

In April, Trump declared an economic emergency, arguing that trade imbalance weakened local production and was harmful to national security.

While the Court of Appeal decided against the President, the Trump administration postponed its decision to put into effect the decision by allowing the administration to appeal.

In the file of Wednesday, lawyer John Sauer, the sub -court “the wrong decision of the wrong, extremely effective, sensitive, ongoing diplomatic trade negotiations disrupted and the President of the President’s economic and foreign policy crisis by preventing the efforts to protect our country,” he wrote.

If the Supreme Court refuses to examine justice, the decision may enter into force on October 14th.

In May, the New York -based International Commercial Court announced that tariffs were illegal. This decision was also waiting for the appeal process.

Decisions came in response to the coalition of US states opposing the lawsuits and tariffs filed by small enterprises.

In April, Trump signed an executive orders that implemented “mutual” tariffs aimed at correcting trade imbalances in more than 90 countries and more than 90 countries.

In addition to these tariffs, the Court of Appeal also affects Trump’s taxes in Mexico and China, which argues that Trump is necessary to stop drug imports.

The decision does not apply to some other tasks, such as those imposed on steel and aluminum brought under a different presidential authority.
