NHS senior doctors prepared to strike amid fresh government talks

In a new survey conducted by the British Medical Association (BMA), he said that senior doctors throughout England are ready to take industrial action on ongoing wage disputes.

Findings emerge as representatives for consultants and specialist and assistant specialist (SAS) doctors.

The votes of the BMA in July showed that 67 percent of the participating consultants would be willing to go out and that 10,763 out of 16,082 participants were ready for strikes.

Similarly, 82 percent of SAS doctors expressed support for industrial action, including strikes.

Although the BMA has a 4 percent payment increase this year, consultants have faced 26 percent Reals-Ers payment deduction since 2008/09, and SAS doctors have seen a decrease of 24 percent in the same period.

Dr. Helen Neary and the co -chairmen of the union’s consultants committee. Shanu Datta said: “This is a clear sign of deep concerns about our members, not only in the last year, but also in the last decade and more, their salaries, pensions and values given to their professionalism.

“The payment of the consultants is still more than a quarter of the 2008 levels and lagging behind other professions, which is on their way to regain their wages.”

Consultants in the UK participated in strikes between July and October 2023.

Dr Neary and Dr Datta added: “We know that our dispute two years ago did not come lightly for consultants, but these answers are still willing to stop in order to ensure that they are very needed in working lives and conditions;

“We know that the Minister of Foreign Affairs understands the ambitions of developing health services and the health of the government and the health of the nation, and we are looking forward to discussing how the country can hire and hold consultants without our most expert clinicians.”

President of the SAS Committee of BMA. Ujjwala Mohite said, “SAS doctors are the UNGUNG heroes of NHS – hardworking, but for a long time overlooked and worthless.

“Today’s consequences show that this invaluable group of doctors will no longer take this bed and are willing to stand up and recognized.

“SAS doctors are tired of being accepted, and they are willing to fight for improvements for payment, career progress and development, so they are no longer ‘forgotten labor’.

“The government ignores this senior medical labor in danger, and we are looking forward to walking around the table as they can properly value and support the ministers of SAS doctors, and to continue to offer their patients and NHS their full potential.”

The results of the survey arise due to a dispute between the government and the settled doctors in the UK.

Previously known as young doctors, medical officials organized strikes between 25 July and 30 July and are currently in negotiations.

“This shows that the vast majority of consultants and SAS doctors are not ready to go on strike, and that it is rightly so.

“As a very valuable part of the NHS labor force, the consultants have seen that their wages have increased by 22% in the last three years, and an average salary of £ 145,000 per year. For the first time for more than ten years, the NHS is on its way to recovery.

“NHS doctors now have a government that values them and wants to work with them to improve their working conditions and to rebuild our NHS.
