Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba resigned on Sunday months after his party was subjected to historical defeat in the parliamentary elections in July. The decision comes after the increasing calls to resign from the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). In October, 68 -year -old Ishiba, who took responsibility, has ignored the demands of resignation from competitors in the LDP so far, and that his resignation would cause a political void in the country.

On Sunday, Ishiba called an emergency press conference at the Prime Ministry in Capital Tokyo and announced “I will resign.”

In the parliamentary elections held in July, the ruling coalition led by IShiba could not secure the majority in the upper house with a 248 -seat 248 -seat. This coup came after a similar election defeat in the Lower House of the Parliament. Last week, LDP decided to review the survey loss by calling the party’s “full revision”. The ruling party is expected to prepare for the possible presidential elections in early October.
