Police excess: SHRC recommends compensation to former Madurai Corporation councillor V.K. Gurusamy

The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) suggested that the Tamil Nadu government to pay 2.5 lakh compensation in case of police surplus to the former Madurai Corporation Assembly Member VK Gurusamy on Monday, September 8, 2025. In addition, the state government was proposed to initiate disciplinary procedures against the police personnel involved in the case.
SHRC member V. Kannadasan, then affiliated with the Keeraiharai Police Station in Madurai’deki inspector M. Manikandan’dan suggested a total of La 2 Lakh sum, each C. Udhayakumar, then the police and A. Nagarajan police director, then the police, then the police, then the police inspector said.
Mr. Gurusamy said he was a politician in the complaint, and after 2011, the police carried out false cases against him and his family members and detained him in accordance with the Gondas Law on the provocation of an old minister from another political party. Mr. Udhayakumar and Mr. Nagarajan claimed that he had received 50 lakh from his house and that he was only 18.86 lakh.
The complainant also said that he should stay in prison for 215 days.
Considering the materials on the records and arguments of both sides, the Commission said that when he was in prison by the complainant, Mr. Udhayakumar and Mr. Nagarajan earn money from his home and prove that they threatened their family members against any complaints.
Even when a complainant’s father -in -law was made by a complainant looking for a police protection, Mr. Manikan did not take any action and closed the case. The Commission, this meant a violation of human rights.
