Azerbaijan Grand Prix: Oscar Piastri says McLaren ‘very aligned’ on approach to title fight

Piastri said that McLaren’s decision to reverse the order of cars due to the series of decisions that led to the pit stops of the team.
Norris was the leading role of McLaren, but instead of Norris, the team decided to stop Piastri against the normal congress first.
Piastri’s stop went cleanly, but Norris lost four seconds due to the problem of plugging the left front wheel. This led Norris to rank second.
Since the team decided to stop in an unusual order, McLaren decided to restore the natural order of the race, even though they accepted that the right thing to be done is a natural race event that would not lead to such a call.
Piastri added: “Monza had another factor outside the slow pit stop.
“I am happy to talk because it happened. We can’t plan every scenario, but we’re very aligned and I respect the team’s decisions, and I trust that they’ll do their best to do the right thing.
“The biggest thing for me from Monza was that it was a weekend that I deserved to finish the third. I didn’t deserve to finish the second because of the speed I had. I was fast at certain points, but I wasn’t fast enough all the weekend. This is my main package.”
Piastri said that slow pit stops were part of his statements on the radio during the race because he was a part of the race.
“This is a decision, a slow pit stop is part of the race,” he said. He continued: “The car, there was no context about what was going on in terms of pit stop sequencing. So it was decided that the reason for replacement was another factor.”
Norris will talk to the media later on Thursday.
