Trump, Xi Jinping Hold Phone Call Amid TikTok Deal And Taiwan Aid Reports | World News

US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, Washington and Beijing reported that diplomatic maneuvers gained momentum on Friday.

Call follows the reports of Washington Post and shows that Trump is trying to negotiate a trade agreement with China and therefore approved the US $ 400 million for the military aid package proposed to Taiwan. Referring to the sources familiar with the issue, the report said that the Trump administration is trying to soften the ties with Beijing to prepare a potentially a larger agreement.

A White House official announced that the final decision on the Taiwan Military Aid Package has not yet been made and is still taken into consideration.

In parallel, the debates between Washington and Beijing have concentrated around the popular video sharing platform Tiktok, a Chinese technology company Baytan. According to the New York Post, Trump confirmed at the beginning of this week:

“We have an agreement on Tiktok. I have reached an agreement with China. I will talk to President Xi on Friday to confirm everything.”

Trump’s comments come in the midst of national security. In 2023, President Joe Biden signed a legislation that required to sell Tiktok or face a prohibition in the USA. A federal law, which will initially enter into force in January 2024, required to be disposed of from Tiktok to continue to operate in the United States. Trump later extended the deadline and devoted more time to negotiations.

On September 14, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirmed that Tiktok had established a “frame” for an agreement that would allow Tiktok to operate in the country, speaking at a press conference in Madrid.

The latest trade debates between the US and Chinese delegations took place in Madrid, Switzerland, England and Sweden after previous tours. China Trade Minister and International Trade Representative Li Chenggang, according to Xinhua, two countries:

“He organized sincere debates about Tiktok and related concerns, and reached a fundamental framework in solving the issue through cooperation, reducing investment barriers and encouraging economic and trade ties.”

Considering the delay in the approval of military aid to Taiwan, the tense cross -throat relations and the long -standing claim on Taiwan as a part of China’s territory, he raised his eyebrows in Washington. Beijing has repeatedly claimed the right to unite with Taiwan if necessary.

Although the Trump administration has not confirmed a direct connection between Taiwan assistance and Tiktok negotiations, analysts believe that convergence of these developments points to a broader strategic re-calibration in US-China relations.
