A. Amalraj is Chennai Police Commissioner

Additional Director General of Police A. Amalraj has been appointed as the Commissioner of Police of Greater Chennai Police. He replaces Abhin Dinesh Modak, who has been posted as ADGP of Crime Branch-CID.
One of the most senior ADGPs in the state, Dr. Amalraj belongs to the 1996 batch of the Indian Police Service (IPS) and had previously served as Tambaram Police Commissioner in two different tenures.
He served the Tamil Nadu police in different capacities, including Commissioner of Police in Salem, Coimbatore and Tiruchi. He headed the Central and Western Districts of the state police.
He worked in Theni, Madurai, Ramanathapuram and Salem in the rank of Superintendent of Police.
Dr. Amalraj was awarded the Presidential Meritorious Service Medal, Distinguished Service Police Medal, Prime Minister’s Special Performance Medal and Prime Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Public Service.
