Jamie Dimon says AI could help us have ‘wonderful lives’

JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon said Sunday he feels optimistic about artificial intelligence and believes it has the potential to provide a better work-life balance even if it triggers layoffs.

We speak with Maria Bartiromo Fox NewsDimon said he does not believe “AI will significantly reduce employment” next year. “AI will mostly do great things for humanity, like tractors did, like fertilizers did, like vaccines did,” he said. “Maybe one day we’ll be working less, but we’ll have great lives.”

Still, Dimon acknowledged that AI-related layoffs will continue. And he thinks both the private and public sectors should play a role in minimizing harm and ensuring it is “properly regulated”.

He told Bartiromo that the government and companies “need to look at how we phase this in a way that doesn’t harm large numbers of people.”

“Years ago, when you had a town that was damaged by a factory closing, we should have done a little more on trade assistance. And you can do that. You can retrain people, relocate people, do income assistance, retire early. And the next job might be a better job,” Dimon continued.

Dimon argued that employees worried about being replaced by AI tools should focus on critical thinking, emotional intelligence, communication and hard skills to stay ahead.

The CEO also pushed back on rumors that businesses are being more cautious about hiring because of AI; Dimon argued that jobs and wages are slightly weaker “because [companies] “I want to do more with less” – the basic premise of automation.

This isn’t the first time Dimon has spoken positively about how AI will impact workers.

At the American Business Forum in Miami this November, Dimon said: “My prediction is that, thanks to artificial intelligence, the developed world will be working three and a half days a week in 20, 30, 40 years.”

But Dimon’s dreams are far from coming to fruition, and in fact the opposite appears to be happening. Workers at many AI startups in Silicon Valley are signing up 72 hour work weeksFollowing a “996” schedule – 9am to 9pm, six days a week – that is so brutal it was once banned in China.

Yet many of Dimon’s peers offer a similar perspective.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said last month that he believes artificial intelligence has the power to: Fixing America’s national debt.

“I actually think the only thing that can solve the debt situation is artificial intelligence and robotics,” Musk said. he said in a podcast interview with billionaire investor Nikhil Kamath. Musk believes this “will likely cause significant deflation.”

And co-founder of Microsoft What Bill Gates said AI could create a 2- or 3-day work week and cause society to fundamentally rethink its relationship with work.
