CCTV shows moments before Huddersfield man fatally stabs refugee | News

A 20-year-old man from Huddersfield fatally stabbed a Syrian refugee in the neck just weeks after moving to the city.
CCTV footage released by West Yorkshire Police on Friday (October 10) shows Alfie Franco, 20, with his then-girlfriend in the town centre, as Ahmad Mamdouh Al Ibrahim, 16, walked past him with a friend.
Prosecutors said Franco took “minor exception” when Ahmed walked past his girlfriend “harmlessly” and the pair got into a brief verbal argument.
As Ahmed approached, Franco pulled a knife from his pocket and stabbed the teenager in the neck. The 16-year-old managed to stagger away but later collapsed and bled to death.
On Thursday, October 9, Franco was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 23 years. He pleaded not guilty and said he acted in self-defense, but the judge said that was a “lie”.
