Woman accused of shooting and siege role granted bail

A woman arrested by heavily armed police following an alleged shooting of a man during a suburban home invasion has been released on bail.

Grace Kelly Minchinton, 30, and two other defendants allegedly faced a five-hour siege with police before being taken into custody.

Minchinton was arrested on the night of May 19, 2025, after police equipped with an armored car and assault rifles responded to a report of shots fired at a rural property at Purga, west of Brisbane, at 4.35pm.

The property owner was allegedly shot while trying to flee the property.

Minchinton and co-defendants Angus Gerald Roeton and Nikolaus Alexander Blyton were arrested following the siege, which shut down the rural suburb for hours as police declared an emergency.

Minchinton appeared in the Supreme Court of Queensland on Monday to apply for bail on charges including acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and two counts of entering a building with intent to commit an offence.

He appeared via video link in a light blue prison jumper, representing himself in his bail application.

Judge Paul Freeburn told Minchinton: “The director of public prosecutions has the pressure to say that there are very serious crimes, they involve violence and the consequences could be much more serious.”

“Now it’s time to tell me why you should be released on bail.”

Minchinton said he was offered accommodation and work cleaning property and road works if he was released.

“I’ve been sober for almost 300 days now. I’m more than happy with any monitoring or curfew,” he said.

He said he had been detained since his arrest and that this was the first time he had been detained.

Crown prosecutor Dan Cuschieri told Judge Freeburn that Minchinton was not accused of personally discharging a firearm at the alleged victim, but his bail application was opposed.

“He was involved in a premeditated situation involving firearms, which subsequently resulted in a siege,” he said.

Minchinton was granted bail with strict conditions, including reporting to police three times a week, a nightly curfew and drug and alcohol testing.

“Don’t take this the wrong way, but I hope I never see you again,” Judge Freeburn told Minchinton.
