Miami Open: Sabalenka and Gauff win, Medvedev goes out, camera concern for umpire

World number one Aryna Sabalenka made quick work of the Miami Open match against Zheng Qinwen to reach the quarter-finals.

It took just one hour and 25 minutes for the reigning champion to defeat his Chinese opponent with a score of 6-3 6-4.

Sabalenka, 27, has won the US Open in the last two years and appears to be in quiet form. The American will face Hailey Baptiste in the last eight after defeating Latvian Jelena Ostapenko by a margin of 6-3 6-4.

Fourth seed Coco Gauff advanced to the quarter-finals with a hard-fought 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win over Romanian Sorana Cirstea.

The 22-year-old American committed six double faults and was broken five times in a sloppy display, but it was enough to win and set up a match against Amanda Anisimova or Belinda Bencic.

The Miami tournament is Gauff’s home event and she’s eager to win the championship, but she won’t stress herself about it this year.

He joined the event after retiring at Indian Wells earlier in the month after a nerve problem in his left arm caused him to abandon his third-round match.

“I don’t really feel pressure, I feel more supported at this event,” she said.

“I want to win this tournament so bad, because it’s my home tournament. But I didn’t have the best preparation, so keeping expectations lower allows me to be free and not expect too much from myself.”
