‘Excellent size’: UK blueberry crop up nearly a quarter after warm spring | Food & drink industry

The British Blueberry is the last fruit that benefits from the hottest spring in the record and this year is almost a quarter of a harvest.

Breeders say that the weather produces an early product with larger and larger fruits, while new varieties can bring higher efficiency and better flexibility. Approximately 5,133 tons by the end of August are significantly increased from approximately 4,187 tons to the same point last year.

The sales of global fruits are 9% ahead each year as a demand for raising awareness and healthy crop support for health characteristics.

S & A Produce Group Commercial Director Daniel Martin says: “This Blue Mersini season, strong light levels and the absence of rain, thanks to the program about two weeks before the program had a really positive early start.

“As a result, the perfect fruit size and beautiful, even ripen along the crop. In summary, we are optimistic about the season and we expect to see perfect flavor and shelf life this year’s crop.”

In order to reduce automatic collection and labor costs and increase productivity, new technology is helpful while investing in other methods.

Jim Floor, General Manager of Hall Hunter, one of England’s leading wild Mersin breeders, said that the company is now using machines to harvest 10% of its crop, and it is expected to rise to 30% next year – the rest was chosen by hand.

He leads the hand -chosen technology thrust in the wildberte, more sensitive strawberry, raspberry and blackberry and Hall Hunter.

“When it comes to robotic fruit collection, we see stable and encouraging advances from robotic and automation companies. However, technology is not yet ready to adopt a widespread commercial son,” he said.

Blockbuster Blueberry Summer comes hot on the heels of a perfect broadcast for strawberry.

Sunny, very dry spring, with the hottest beginning under record, early strawberries, eggplants and tomatoes in the early May caused the abundance.
