Total Eclipse of the Heart singer dies aged 75
Bonnie Tyler, singer known for her hit songs Total Heart Eclipse And Adopting a HeroHe died at the age of 75.
A statement posted on Tyler’s website reads:
“Bonnie’s family and team are deeply saddened to announce that she passed away unexpectedly last night in hospital in Portugal, following the illness for which she was being treated.”
“We will issue another statement shortly, but for now we ask for privacy so we can deal with this tragedy.”
In May, Tyler had emergency bowel surgery in Faro, Portugal, and fell into a coma.
Last month, a spokesperson confirmed Tyler had woken up but said the singer remained “in very bad shape and in intensive care.”
Tyler, whose real name is Gaynor Hopkins, rose to worldwide fame after the release of her mega-hit movie in 1983. Total Heart Eclipse. The single topped the charts in the UK and the US and earned him a Grammy nomination.

Tyler represented the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013, placing 19th out of 26 performers, and ten years later he was awarded the MBE for his services to music. Tyler leaves behind her husband, Robert Sullivan, whom she married in 1973. The couple has no children.
