US threatens Mexican airline flights over airline competition issues

By David Shepardson

Washington (Reuters) -The Trump administration said that on Saturday, the Mexican government has taken a series of actions against Mexico on the decisions of the Mexican government to cancel some flight nests for US carriers and to carry US cargo carriers to carry operations in Mexico City.

US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said in a statement that the government could reject flight requests from Mexico if he did not meet his concerns about the decisions made in 2022 and 2023. The department proposes to withdraw antitröst immunity from the joint venture of Aeromexico and Delta Air Lines to address competitive problems in the market.

Mexico is the most popular international target among US airline travelers. Delta was not available to comment immediately.

The transport department said it was not suitable for a binary air agreement that Mexico suddenly canceled the nests since 2022 and then forced us to change operations in 2023.

Reuters asked the Mexican Ministry of Transportation about orders.

Duffy was expected to allow Mexico City to allow Mexico City to allow him to alleviate the blockage at Benito Juarez International Airport (Mex), but this has not yet happened three years later.

“By restricting the nests and required to leave all cargo operations from Mex, Mexico broke the promise, broke the market and left American enterprises that hold American businesses at millions of increasing costs.” He said.

The Transportation Department has issued a pair of orders that required Mexican airlines to plan the department for all US operations and to require US approval before using their flights to the United States or the United States or the United States, or to the United States, or to use their flights to the United States.

“Mexico has changed significantly in a way that will allow the dominant competitors to have an unfair advantage in the US-Mexico market,” Mexico has changed. ” He said. “Mexico’s actions are damaging the airlines who want to enter the market, the existing rival airlines, the air travel consumers and the time -sensitive air cargo shipments traded between the two countries.”

If the US cancels the antitröst approval for Delta and Aeromexico, if they need to stop cooperation with joint pricing, capacity management and income sharing, but Delta can also maintain the equity shares in Aeromexico, protect all the existing flights in the US-Mexico market and continue a partnership.
