A1 traffic LIVE: Chaos as incident ‘involving pedestrian’ prompts road closure and delays | UK | News

Motorists braced for traffic problems Monday afternoon after a police incident caused long delays. The A1(M) was closed in both directions before 17:00 on 27 October.
Traffic cameras showed long delays stretching from the M1 Aberford By Pass to the J44 A64 (York/Tadcaster). West Yorkshire Police said the incident involved a “pedestrian”.
In a post published on X at 4.32pm, National Highways said: “Traffic is currently stopped in both directions on the #A1M between J43 #M1 and J44 #York #Leeds.
He added that West Yorkshire Police were “currently dealing with an incident involving a pedestrian which required traffic to be stopped to ensure safety” and that there were long delays in both directions.
In the next update at 4.49pm, National Highways traffic is now “cleared on the #A1M between J42 #Selby #A63 and J44 #York #Leeds” following the closure.
National Highways said West Yorkshire Police “resolved the incident safely and both directions were reopened and traffic was flowing”.
But he added that there were “long delays with several kilometers of traffic congestion in both directions.”
