ABC signs Jimmy Kimmel to a one-year contract extension

US President Donald Trump will not be able to get his wish after ABC confirmed it had signed late-night comedian Jimmy Kimmel’s contract to extend by one year.
Kimmel’s previous multi-year contract was set to expire in May, so the extension will keep him on the air until at least May 2027.
Kimmel’s future looked questionable in September when ABC suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live! for statements made following the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Following public outcry, ABC lifted the suspension and Kimmel returned to the air with much stronger ratings than before.
Continuing his cruel jokes at the president’s expense led Trump to call on the network to “take the bum off the air” in a social media post last month.
Kimmel will stay at CBS longer than his late-night colleague Stephen Colbert.
The network announced this northern summer that it would end Colbert’s show in May for economic reasons, even though it was the most-watched program on late-night television.
