ACA subsidies will be extended by 1–2 yrs: Healthcare strategist

What do you think the prospects are for extending ACA subsidies through the end of the year, or for any length of time?

It seems like this is kind of self-fulfilling. With the midterms approaching and how important this is to all voters, I can’t see politicians removing subsidies. I mean, when we talk about this group, a lot of times it comes down to what the older population is going to do. In this case, they are younger patients, they cancel the insurance and go get it done on their own.

At this point, you know, it doesn’t seem possible with a larger off-the-shelf component. I know the administration has talked about maybe cutting subsidies and instead giving some of these, um, giving some of the population, you know, a check or some kind of payment, basically bridging the gap between what they’re going to get and the end of the subsidies.

But I think the careers of many politicians are at risk. I doubt subsidies will be completely derailed. So I think we’ll be looking at an extension of at least a year, maybe two.
