Sanitation activities in and around Hyderabad reviewed a day after Telangana CM’s directions

A day after Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy warned the authorities that it would be suspended if the roads were not clean, the cleaning work in Corporations in Hyderabad and surrounding areas was reviewed by the concerned Commissioners. Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao also held a review meeting on measures taken for garbage collection, sanitation and protection of public health.
The Chief Minister, who is also the MA&UD Minister, on Tuesday directed officials to review the coverage of flyovers in high-traffic areas, ensure operation and maintenance of street lights and explore the possibility of smart poles in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits. On this occasion, he said that if the roads are not cleaned, the officials will be dismissed on the spot. The Prime Minister also said that he will visit all districts in the Corporation.
Surveillance unit to monitor sanitation in Hyderabad
In the review meeting held with Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) officials at the State Secretariat on Wednesday, February 17, 2026, the Chief Secretary said that an oversight unit should be set up to monitor sanitation and cleaning work in the city.
The commissioners made a Powerpoint Presentation (PPT) to the Chief Secretary to explain the measures taken so far to maintain cleanliness. Emphasizing the importance of the municipal unit and responding to the needs of the people, the Chief Secretary said that officials who neglect their duties will not be spared.

7,800 tons of garbage every day in Hyderabad
GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan said 7,800 tonnes of garbage is collected daily within the city limits and 4,500 Swachh Autos go door to door to collect garbage. Before the meeting, he reviewed the cleanliness arrangements in Charminar Area and inspected important places including Mecca Masjid, Medina and Charminar area.

The assignment of cleaning personnel, road maps, monitoring mechanisms, cleaning measures around places of worship, road sweeping operations and waste collection in commercial and market areas were reviewed.
Meanwhile, Cyberabad Municipal Corporation Commissioner G. Srijana inspected the cleaning activities at Jeedimetla Circle in Quthbullapur district. He directed that regular cleaning efforts and 100 percent door-to-door garbage collection should be ensured.
