Accused killer ‘washed blood off in swimming pool’

“Ms. Walker had bruises and cuts to her face, arms and knees consistent with her being brought to her knees violently during the struggle.

“Almost all of his left ribs were broken and some of his right ribs were also broken.”

Bloody footprints stretched from his body into the pool; here the Crown argued that King had mopped up the trail evidence and blood spatter before raising the alarm.

The court was told coroners found traces of King’s DNA under Walker’s fingernails.

Days before the murder, Walker had grown fed up with King after a bad temper with another resident and had given him four weeks to pack and move out.

The Crown claimed King had been drinking and became angry and violent after his release.

Kelso told the jury that “Ms. Walker received a good sentence at her home.”

“He loved living there and paying $165 a week and allowing him to make up the rent in other ways if he fell behind by doing odd jobs around the house,” she said.

“He only had $1.06 in his bank account at the time of his death. It would not have been easy for him to find another place to live, and certainly not one that was as comfortable as Ms. Walker’s home.”

“He had nowhere to go. Ms. Walker came home… confronted him in the living room and his anger overwhelmed him and he attacked her.”

King had previously presented evidence denying killing Walker.

Defense attorney Jason Buckland had previously pleaded not guilty to King, saying his client found the homeowner’s body in the home.

Kelso rejected evidence that King lied to hide the fact that he brutally murdered Walker.

The jury is expected to begin deliberations on Monday.
