Act in 3 days to protect Salman Khan’s personality rights, Delhi HC tells social media platforms

Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora said he would issue a detailed interim restraining order against other entities involved in the matter.
The high court directed social media intermediaries to consider Khan’s case as a complaint under the Information and Technology (Intermediaries Guidelines and Digital Media Code of Ethics) Rules, 2021 and take necessary steps within three days.
The court said social media intermediaries should have informed Khan if they had reservations about any web link provided by him.
Khan applied to the Supreme Court to prevent unauthorized use of his name, images, personality and likeness by social media platforms and e-commerce sites and to protect his personal rights.
The right of publicity, popularly known as personality rights, is the right to protect, control and profit from one’s image, name or likeness.
Recently, Bollywood actors Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, her husband Abhishek Bachchan and her mother-in-law Jaya Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan and Ajay Devgn, filmmaker Karan Johar, singer Kumar Sanu, Telugu actor Akkineni Nagarjuna, ‘Art of Living’ founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, journalist Sudhir Chaudhary and podcaster Raj Shamani have also approached the high court seeking protection of their personalities and publicity. rights.
