King Charles reveals what ‘troubles him deeply’ in rare cancer update | Royal | News

Speaking in a video filmed at her home in London two weeks ago, the monarch said: “Throughout my cancer journey, I have been deeply touched by what I can only call the ‘community of care’ that surrounds every cancer patient – the specialists, nurses, researchers and volunteers who work tirelessly to save and improve lives.

“But I also learned something that disturbed me deeply: At least nine million people in our country are not aware of the cancer screenings available to them. This means at least nine million opportunities for early detection are missed.”

He continued: “Statistics speak for themselves. To give an example: When bowel cancer is caught at the earliest stage, approximately nine out of ten people survive for at least five years. When diagnosed late, this rate drops to one in ten.

“Early diagnosis quite simply saves lives.”

The King shared his message as a positive update while talking about the things that concern him and his experiences throughout his own cancer journey.

Explaining that he will soon be able to reduce the number of regular treatments he currently undergoes, he told viewers: “Today I am able to share with you the good news that thanks to early diagnosis, effective intervention and adherence to ‘doctors’ orders’, my own schedule of cancer treatment can be reduced in the New Year.

“This milestone is both a personal blessing and a testament to the remarkable advances in cancer care that have been made in recent years; I hope this testimony can provide encouragement to the fifty percent of us who will be diagnosed with the disease at some point in our lives.”
