Actor Ranveer Singh to Apologise, Go to Chamundi Hill

Bengaluru: Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh will reportedly make an apologetic statement and will also visit Chamundi Hill. The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday was informed during the hearing of a complaint and plea seeking quashing of the FIR over alleged remarks about a divine character in the movie Kantara Part 1. The actor is accused of calling the coastal deity of Karnataka ‘Chavundi Daiva’ a ghost during the Filmfare Awards ceremony held in Goa last year.

The ‘Dhurandhar’ actor was fined following a complaint from a lawyer who claimed that his religious sentiments were hurt.

The single-judge bench of Justice M. Nagaprasanna took cognizance of the submission of senior advocate Sajan Poovayya, who appeared before the actor, who said, “We will make an apologetic statement. We will also visit Chamundi Hill.”

While hearing the matter, the court observed that the remarks were inappropriate and emphasized the responsibility of public figures.

“What Ranveer did is not right… There must be a feeling of remorse. Actors have a strong impact on people,” the court said.

The complainant’s lawyer, CG Malayali, called the apology “insincere” and argued that the actor should apologize in person, even suggesting that he visit the temple and apologize verbally.

The court stated that an apology and corrective steps could solve the problem and said, “You should visit the temple. An error has occurred.” he said.

The case was postponed to April 10 for further hearing.
