Adani Defence delivers first batch of 2,000 ‘Prahar’ light machine guns to Army

Gwalior: In a bid to boost the firepower of the Indian Army, a defense major on Saturday handed over the first batch of 2,000 light machine guns (LMG) ‘Prahar’ manufactured under the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

The 7.62 mm caliber gun was manufactured by Adani Defense and Aerospace at its Small Arms Complex on the outskirts of Gwalior.

A ceremony was held at their facility on Saturday to hand over the LMGs to the Army. A Anbarasu, Directorate General of Procurement, Ministry of Defence, Adani Defense and Aviation CEO Ashish Rajvanshi and other senior officials of the private firm attended the ceremony.

Anbarasu then flagged down a number of trucks carrying the first batch of LMGs for the Army.

Talking to reporters after the flag-off, Rajvanshi said, “The journey that started today took us six years from the time the bid was submitted and we delivered it 11 months ahead of schedule.” he said.

“The original timeline given to us by the customer was over seven years but I can assure you that the entire order will be delivered within the next three years,” he added.
A company spokesman said total orders for LMGs were around 40,000. Speaking at the event, Anbarasu praised the firm for saving several months by delivering ahead of schedule, saying it showed it had the ability to “race and shoot” against the clock in turning contracts into deliveries.

He said the government stands shoulder to shoulder with its defense industry partners.
