Afcon 2025: Morocco declared the winners after CAF overturns final defeat to Senegal

Morocco was declared champions of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after the Confederation of African Football (Caf) overturned the result of their last defeat against Senegal.

Senegal beat Morocco 1-0 in the final on January 18. This match was marred by the Senegalese players refusing to play after the home team were awarded a goalless stoppage time penalty.

After a delay of approximately 17 minutes, the players returned and Brahim Diaz’s penalty was saved by Senegalese Pape Gueye’s goal in extra time.

However, this result has now been overturned by African football’s governing body.

In the statement made by Caf, it was stated that Senegal “declared the final match defeated” and “the result of the match was recorded as 3-0 in favor of Morocco”.
