‘Agents of political interests’: Zomato’s Deepinder Goyal shares video of assault on delivery boy during strike

Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal shared videos on social media platform

“I am for peaceful protests against everything. However, violent protests and preventing others who want to work from working is not right,” he wrote in his post.

This came shortly after delivery workers affiliated with e-commerce platforms staged protests in many cities, demanding better wages, safer working conditions and social security rights.

Amidst these disruptions, Deepinder Goyal has emerged as an important public voice coming forward to defend the gig business model and casual work. He has made several posts over the past two days to express his views on the gig economy.

‘Some protesters weren’t even our delivery partners’

The senior executive also claimed that most of the people participating in the protest were not actually delivery partners of Zomato or Blinkit. He said this based on information he and the company had available, and suggested outsiders may have been involved in preventing delivery workers from doing their jobs.

“They were agents of political interests, piggybacking on the narrative to gain political mileage,” he claimed in his post.

In the videos shared by Goyal, some delivery partners were seen to be victims of harassment; One of the delivery drivers claimed that someone broke his phone because he continued working rather than joining the strike.

Netizens weigh in

The post shared by Goyal on X quickly gained attention and received hundreds of comments from people expressing all kinds of opinions on the subject.

Supporting Goyal’s view on the situation, a user

Another user said, “This is a shame. It’s 2026 and this type of coercive physical harassment is still going on. This sends the wrong message to investors.”

Netizens seemed divided; While some users fully supported the top executive’s claims, others questioned his views.

In response, one such person said: “Violence must be condemned – there is no debate on that. But when companies allege ‘foreign’ and ‘political agent’ the bar shifts to evidence and due process. Combining protest with sabotage risks delegitimizing genuine workers’ voices, and this will backfire faster than strikes.”
