Ahmedabad traffic cop suspended for slapping woman during dispute over traffic rules

“Chief Constable Jayantibhai Zala has been suspended for hitting a woman for allegedly dropping her ID card,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Western Traffic) Bhavana Patel told reporters. he said.
The incident took place on Friday when the woman, Bansri Thakkar, was allegedly riding a two-wheeler on the wrong side of the road in Paldi area without a helmet. Authorities said Zala stopped him for the alleged violation.
The incident became more violent when the police officer asked to see his ID and behaved rudely. “The police officer allegedly knocked him to the ground after showing his ID card. The police officer then became enraged and slapped him,” Patel said.
The video showing the traffic police hitting the woman went viral on social media.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Thakkar claimed that the police officer first grabbed his hand during the argument. “When I questioned him about touching me, he slapped me hard across the face, causing a small amount of bleeding,” she said.
“Even if he is a police officer, he has no right to attack me,” he said. A lawsuit was filed against the woman for obstructing a public official from performing his duty. Police said the investigation is ongoing.
Paldi police received Thakkar’s complaint against Zala and are working on it, an official said.
