Australia v England scores, results, start time, wickets, teams, how to watch
Exactly how long it will take is a mystery – much like England’s general approach – and may depend on whether Stokes (4) and Jacks (4) can form a history-making partnership to delay the inevitable 2-0 deficit in this Ashes series.
I say “it feels like it” based on the available evidence, and yes, I’m talking about last night’s session. Day three at the Gabba started well, with the tourists taking early wickets (Neser and Carey) with a view to getting their second innings quickly.
Starc, of course, had other ideas and unexpectedly opted to become top scorer with 77 goals in his 75-year partnership with Boland (Stokes, Jacks: take note). Australia ended up with 511 points; We can assume that England were so shocked that they didn’t know how to play cricket after that.
England began batting in the evening session and started well, taking 0-45… before Duckett, Pope, Crawley, Root, Brook and Smith were bowled out for around 25 overs. They lost 5-89 and were brown bread for all intents and purposes.
We’ll see how good Australia is, but let’s leave it at that for now.
England would go on to make 6-134, 43 runs behind.
